About The Course
Propriometry is the measurement of how well a human’s proprioceptive system calibrates the body’s position in space, and one’s ability to purposefully move or position the body. Created by Katy Bowman, the principles of biology, physics, mechanics and engineering all come into play, as well as the neurological influences of anthropology and psychology.
The Institute’s whole-body education program is based on the biomechanical theory of optimal wellness, and is an in-depth look at how the mechanics of the “human machine” function optimally. Designed for the health practitioner or experienced layman, this course covers the Biomechanical Model of Preventive Medicine, the effect of alignment on blood flow, and the mechanics of the major musculoskeletal functions of the body. In addition to lecture, the practical component of the program allows Restorative Exercise Specialists to optimize their own motor skills while learning how to teach and evaluate others using the Restorative Exercise™ protocol.
“This is possibly the best educational (and life changing) experience I have had. Being a chiropractor and using neurofeedback therapy to help brain injuries you would think I had it all together in the area of “alignment,” but not so. Last year I was so crippled from chronic achilles tendonitis, I could barely walk, much less exercise. Every therapy known did not help. After 1 month of Restorative Exercise™ and proper alignment and I was 90% better – unbelievable! Less than a year later I climbed Half Dome in Yosemite. Don’t pass up the opportunity and experience for optimum wellness no matter your age or profession.”

Course Content
All course material is free from culture-based theory, and relies on science and evidence-based arguments. Begin with biological theory – the physics of cellular regeneration, current models in pain management, and how the alignment of the skeleton contributes to diseases considered a “normal” part of aging. In addition to corrective exercise, the student will be learning how neurology and motor learning are affected by muscle usage, and how to align the body objectively.
This education program is an in-depth look at the mechanics of the human machine, from the role of muscles and bones in balance and alignment; the role of alignment in optimal function; and the roles of the brain, awareness and culture in supporting or undermining optimal human function.

“I am a practicing PT so I incorporate (Restorative Exercise™) into my initial assessments and utilize it everyday in treatments and in patient education/ home exercise programs throughout their treatment duration. I am very pleased with the training and have found the knowledge to be invaluable to practicing PT. Conveying wellness to patients and being able to empower them with the knowledge of how to take control is a great feeling. I have had wonderful feedback and success with it.”

Testimonials
As a 70+-year old retired attorney and nationally certified strength trainer, I found the Restorative Exercise Specialist (RES) program the most scientific, logical and effective program for total body health and wellness. I was recently certified as a RES, and by integrating the principles of the program into my daily life. I am seeing a reverse in serious pelvic prolapse and osteopenia. I have eliminated orthotics and enjoy going barefoot again. I am now taking the program on line for my Master Teacher certification. As the biomechanist who originated this program, Bowman has taken the science of biomechanics to a new level and made it available to anyone who chooses to learn and use it.

I have a degree in Kinesiology and a background as a personal trainer and Physical Therapy assistant. When I was faced with a debilitating illness, I found that my methods of exercise were doing me more harm than good. I began to look for an alternative and for years I found none. When I first started taking classes at RExI, I had seen A LOT of different types of exercise and thought this would be just another fad. I was skeptical to say the least. What I discovered in the RES program is that this is so much bigger than an exercise program. It gives you the tools to restore your health through more natural movement habits. I was shocked that I had never heard these principles and that they are not more widely understood by the health/fitness world. It revolutionized my understanding of the body and my exericse beliefs! I truly believe this is the future of "exercise".

As a personal trainer that works primarily with Special Populations, it was very difficult for me to find exercises that my clients could do that did not aggravate their current conditions (e.g. back pain, knee pain, etc.) and improved their well-being. From Katy's lectures, I learned that most exercises are derived or based on athletic movements not natural movements, and thus, not always effective for training Special Populations . When I started training my clients using Restorative Exercises, they tell me that their level of pain have decreased and their postures have improved! The RES certificate program enhanced my personal training skills and abilities to better help my clients. Thanks Katy!

The RES program has revolutioned my attitude to health and fitness. I considered myself very 'fit' having swum and run seriously for many years. However I developed several health issues that made me realize that I was obviously not in optimal health. After doing lots of research I cam across some articles on female health by Katy Bowman and it was as if she was describing me. The RES program has been absolutely fascinating for me as someone interested in my own health and also as a biologist interested in evolution, physiology and human function. I have noticed a significant improvement in my health since beginning the RES program and encourage anyone interested in their health and that of their family to take this course. This is not a quick-fix 20 minute-a-day exercise program, this is a program that teaches how to use the human machine all of the time for optimal health and longevity.

I discovered RExI after I injured my knee and was referred to the program by my chiropractor who is also a Restorative Exercise Specialist. After only 2 weeks of performing the exercises, especially the calf stretch, my knee pain was greatly diminished and was completely gone a short time after that. Since I had also long been searching for information to enhance my understanding of the role body alignment plays in all around wellness, Restorative Exercise has been a fantastic, life changing find to say the least!

The Restorative Exercise Whole-Body Alignment online Program is transformative in the wellness concepts & movement practices it presents. The course has taken me deeper into my body than any other exercise modality & has broadened my practice of myofascial body work benefiting my clients as well as myself. The online format allows me frequent review of the content & is instantly accessible. This is the whole body health program I have been looking for.

My husband has had back problems for as long as I have known him. I have been helping him along the way with what I'm learning from you in the RES course and he has reported that the stretches and alignment tips have been more valuable and helpful than what he has received from all the doctors, PT, LMTs and chiropractors he has seen over the years. So thank you so much for offering this webinar course.
Barbara L - LMT
I like to know "why". This course teaches how and why and what to do. In the webinar, we are able to review until we are clear on the concepts. I’ve done all sorts of exercise programs over the last 30 years (40+ actually). This is the only one that has significantly improved my alignment, blood flow, strength, flexibility and energy. Katy's Restorative Exercise program shows how to use your whole body, not just a few muscle groups.
This program has helped me understand how the body works, and what I can do to maintain optimal health. The RES program has provided me with the manual for a healthier life.
Nancy N. - Taking RES for personal use.
The Restorative Exercise Program should be taught in schools! Katy Bowman delivers a comprehensive study of how the body works and simple "exercises" you can do to keep your body systems working optimally. And did I mention she makes it fun and exciting? It's information Everyone should have!
Ann G. - Court Reporter, Rancher, Restorative Exercise Specialist
Prior to meeting Katy and learning about Restorative Exercise, as a fitness professional (or personal trainer/fitness instructor) for over 10 years, I felt that my education and training (college and fitness training) was lacking. I never subscribed to the “no pain, no gain” mentality and was a careful and conscientious teacher/trainer, but I knew that there had to be more to it that what I’d learned. When I started learning from Katy, I knew she had put together the information that couldn’t find anywhere else. Now, 6 years later, having a deep understanding about how alignment and mechanics affects EVERYTHING, I realize how far off fitness is from health. I am grateful that I can now teach others that optimal health IS achievable and that pain is not inevitable.
Breena M. - B.S. Biology, Personal Trainer/Fitness Instructor
The Whole Body Alignment program is much more than I anticipated. The knowlege that Katy shares about blood flow and osteoporosis to name just two, are new perspectives and insights into the workings of the human body. Just learning these two concepts are worth the cost of the program to me.
If you would like to live a longer and healthier life---take this course and apply the principles in your life!
From the teaser "No More Kegels", Katy had me hooked. How can that be---we all need to do Kegels, right? This course, through fundamental body mechanics showed me why Kegels may be a thing of the past!
