Whole-Body Alignment Program

Propriometry is the measurement of how well a human’s proprioceptive system calibrates the body’s position in space, and one’s ability to purposefully move or position the body. Created by Katy Bowman, the principles of biology, physics, mechanics and engineering all come into play, as well as the neurological influences of anthropology and psychology. Over the last decade, biomechanist Katy Bowman has been using the principles of Propriometry to help thousands of clients to reverse chronic health conditions often thought incurable or even genetic. Utilizing simple exercises, Applied Propriometry is revolutionary in its ability to restore joint function, ease or eliminate chronic pain, and correct spinal alignment. Katy has personally trained over 100 practitioners across the United States to be Restorative Exercise Specialists™, and continues to educate the public worldwide through her Aligned & Well™ DVD series, online courses, and her first full-length book contracted for release in 2011.
Restorative Exercise™ dictates that all physical ailments have a mechanical component, and that most common ailments can be reduced or eliminated through diligent practice of simple, mechanically correct movements.
“This is possibly the best educational (and life changing) experience I have had. Being a chiropractor and using neurofeedback therapy to help brain injuries you would think I had it all together in the area of “alignment,” but not so. Last year I was so crippled from chronic achilles tendonitis, I could barely walk, much less exercise. Every therapy known did not help. After 1 month of Restorative Exercise™ and proper alignment and I was 90% better – unbelievable! Less than a year later I climbed Half Dome in Yosemite. Don’t pass up the opportunity and experience for optimum wellness no matter your age or profession.”
» G.I., Chiropractor, Ventura, CA
Our education program is based on the biomechanical theory of optimal wellness, and is an in-depth look at how the mechanics of the “human machine” function optimally. Designed for the health practitioner or experienced layman, this course covers the Biomechanical Model of Preventive Medicine, the effect of alignment on blood flow, and the mechanics of the major musculoskeletal functions of the body. In addition to lecture, the practical component of the program allows Restorative Exercise Specialists to optimize their own motor skills while learning how to teach and evaluate others using the Restorative Exercise™ protocol.
“I am a practicing PT so I incorporate (Restorative Exercise™) into my initial assessments and utilize it everyday in treatments and in patient education/ home exercise programs throughout their treatment duration.
I am very pleased with the training and have found the knowledge to be invaluable to practicing PT. Conveying wellness to patients and being able to empower them with the knowledge of how to take control is a great feeling. I have had wonderful feedback and success with it.”

Course Content
All course material is free from culture-based theory, and relies on science and evidence-based arguments. Begin with biological theory – the physics of cellular regeneration, current models in pain management, and how the alignment of the skeleton contributes to diseases considered a “normal” part of aging. In addition to corrective exercise, the student will be learning how neurology and motor learning are affected by muscle usage, and how to align the body objectively.
Course Requirements
The Restorative Exercise Specialist™ program consists of 200 lecture, interactive, exercise, and self-paced hours. See brochure for details. Spaces are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Download the Live Training Brochure (Ventura 2011) for all of the details and course syllabus.
What can I do with my training?
With a deep understanding of how motor skill affects every function in the body – from breathing to elimination to plantar fasciitis – you can now begin to maintain your machine with the services it requires. Beyond yourself, you will have an excellent toolbox to draw from to understand and aid family and friends with their wellness issues.
Should you wish to use Restorative Exercise™ professionally, you must be fully certified to take advantage of using the terminology, logos, and trademarks. There are numerous outlets where Restorative Exercise™ is applicable. Add Restorative Exercise™ corrective prescription to any healing practice. Exercise professionals – yoga, pilates, and fitness – will now be able to develop a program much more appropriate for the individual that places health before performance, and for those who wish to stop exacerbating chronic pain. Help individuals understand what they are doing that is keeping them in pain and disease.
The certification is also a stand-alone certificate. Upon completing the program, you are now a Restorative Exercise Specialist – Certified Personal Trainer. You are certified to offer Restorative Exercise™ classes and sessions in your area.

FAQs:
Who is this training appropriate for? I do not have a strong anatomy or science background.
This training is appropriate for everyone from the layperson to the medical professional and everyone in between. There is no science prerequisite; you will learn all of the pertinent terminology, anatomy, and physiology in the course of the training.
With the Online Training do I have to watch each webinar live?
NO. All sessions will be recorded so that you may go back and watch them if you missed them or review at your leisure.
Will there be breaks or are we online for four hours straight?
We will take a break about halfway through each session. This will also allow each recorded segment to be no more than two hours long.
Will I be able to ask questions during the webinar?
YES. There will open times for Q&A. At the beginning of each session there will be time for review of the previous session. If you missed the live version and watched the recording, this would be the appropriate time to ask questions. Katy will not be answering individual emails as the entire group benefits from hearing the questions and answers.
Will I get CEUs for taking this course?
Currently we offer CEUs for midwives through the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council. We are currently working on approval for Nursing CEUs. We have also had students successfully petition their certifying or licensing boards for CEUs.
I just want to learn more for my own knowledge. What if I don’t plan to practice as a business?
With the Online Training, there are two tracks. You may choose Option 1: Personal Alignment Option, or Option 2: Practitioner Certificate. Option 2 earns you the Restorative Exercise Specialist™ designation which allows you to market yourself as a Restorative Exercise Specialist™, use the logos and trademarked terms, receive referrals from and have your business listed on the national website. With the growth of the Aligned and Well program, we are receiving more and more requests for practitioners all over.
With the Live Training, it is structured with the expectation that you will complete the entire Program, which includes all of your Certification requirements. It is your option whether or not you choose to do that.
What are the dates of the Exercise Classes for the Online Training:
Dates and times TBA. These will also be recorded so that you may watch them anytime.
What is the Study Group format for the Online Training?
Webinar format facilitated by a Restorative Exercise Specialist™- Master Teacher.
Can I make payments?
YES, We do offer a payment plan with an additional processing fee. Payments will be charged to the credit card on file on or about the 20thof each month.
Will I need additional equipment besides what is included in my Equipment Fee?
We will send out a suggested equipment list with your registration. Some of these items will be used in the various online exercise classes that will be presented over the 6 months of the course and will be used and referred to in the course of the training.
If I opt for the Online Training and choose to become certified, when is the Certification Week?
You can schedule your week at the Institute anytime after the fourth month of the Course. You may also choose to wait until you have completed the entire six months. While we do not guarantee it, we will make every attempt to find someone to host you while you are here to help reduce your travel expenses.
Should I take the Online or Live Training?
It is recommended if you live within 100 miles of the Institute, and you are not repeating the training, that you take advantage of the live training. You have the indisputable benefit of attending classes at the Institute, being a part of the Institute community, and overall the cost is lower, as your class pass is included in your registration. We have developed the online format to allow those not in close proximity to the Institute to have the opportunity to take the training course without the cost being prohibitive.
